If your mailbox isn't on Gmail or Microsoft, connect it with SMTP. Most email hosts publish their SMTP settings in their help pages.

Before you start

You need the Moderator role or higher, and these details from your email host:

  • the SMTP Host, for example smtp.example.com;
  • the Port, usually 587 for STARTTLS or 465 for SSL;
  • the Username and Password. Some hosts call the password an "app password".

Steps

  1. Open Integrations and click Add integration.
  2. Choose SMTP.
  3. Fill in Server details:
    • Integration name (default "SMTP Mailbox");
    • Host;
    • Port (default 587);
    • Encryption: SSL, TLS or STARTTLS (the default);
    • Username and Password;
    • Sender emails: the addresses you'll send from. The first one becomes the default sender.
  4. Click Create integration.

The message "SMTP integration created" appears and the integration's page opens. Your credentials are encrypted before they're stored.

Check it works

Creating the integration doesn't test the connection. Go to the Test tab and click Test connection to check Signalsant can sign in to your server. See Test an integration.

Change the settings later

Open the integration and go to Details → SMTP settings. Leave Password blank to keep the current one.

Troubleshooting

  • "Connection failed":
    • check the host, port and encryption;
    • 587 normally goes with STARTTLS and 465 with SSL;
    • check the username and password;
    • make sure your host allows SMTP sign-in.
  • "Failed to create SMTP integration": check that every required field is filled in, and that the name is at least 2 characters long.
